The electronic shaman’s voice and rhythm form the life-line that connects images and sound creating new experiences and the conscious-streaming journey outside time and space.

Cher’s ‘Believe’

-method "modern mythical embodiment", she is a modern sorceress

-spiritual journey concludes with a magical green surrounding Cher as a soul exchange happens between a young women and herself

-electronic magic of aural effects, "synthesized" to act as a dreamlike state

Cher’s Believe


Cher’s voice is synthesized and music creates a dreamlike state. In Believe Cher also promotes her record and her audio-visual style and aims to evoke the charisma of stardom and sexuality. Thus she can be also seen as commercial exhibitionist.

-these flows interact and create a complete whole by ears and eyes.




Images to Music

-music video comprised by adding images to music creates moving pictures for an already existing tune, they are bound together by the beat and their musical features.

The Lyrics

-lyrics and images interact creating meaning

- banal lyrics can create new meaning


In the first verse of Believe to phrases "I can’t break through" and "so sad" there is a visual echo made by special effects. A text-illustration appears for example when the girl sits drinking as the lyrics intone "Sit around and wait for you". Effects also occur when the unhappy girl climbs to the rooftop and the rain of tears pours from the sky.

The Images

-can manipulate colour it can create ideas which are repeated an varied


Two main visual motifs; one is Cher’s performance track; the other is the narrative track about the unhappy girl. Visual motifs are lightning effects especially the light that is traveling between the girl and Cher.




Perceiving music Videos

-Contains three visual traditions; perfrmance clip, narritive clip, and art clip

The video exposes the vocalist, and the shots which actually emphasize strange artistic features.

-Shows the vocalists in one or more settings

-Can be three types; song performance, dance performance, and instrumental performance.

-Short and silent movie to a musical background (narrative clip)

- the clip contains a visual story so it’s easy to follow
