Task 2- Research into existing media products: Album promotion

This image is a poster promotion of Lana Del Rey’s song “video games”. The poster shows an image of the artist Lana Del Rey with her hair wavy and swept to the side and a flower band in her hair. This floral band brings colour to the poster as the background is a neutral nude meaning Lana stands out with her bright orange hair and accessories. The poster helps the audience create a possible meaning of the music video of video games. One interpretation could be that the song is about something quite dark but she is some light in the song due to her bright exterior. However, it could also mean a juxtaposition of two personalities. One of feeling alone due to her mans drink issues like the lyrics suggest “He holds me in his big arms drunk” and the other person who she is and wants to show a happy bright person.  Her eye-catching exterior such as bright flowers imply her in a natural state and one with nature, “I'm in his favourite sun dress” lyrics suggest that the song does have a theme which is her being the main focus trying to capture a mans attention.   The cross necklace implies the theme of religion in the song “Heaven is a place on earth with you” these lyrics imply that she believes in religion and has an idea of what her perfect heaven would be like and it would  be with him. The poster is very striking and therefore eye-catching as it focuses on solely on the artists meaning people can easily know who it is advertising. The font also stands out as the dark blue colour pops out of the nude background. The artist name is in a separate font to the song. The name is written in a bold and a more appealing font, the font is quite feminine with the flicks and curls which helps to appeal to the female audience. The song is also written in a dark blue and is in capital letters this makes the song name very clear and easy to read.

The image above is the original image I used for my music video promotion poster. It shares similar qualities to Lana Del Rey's cover with the floral theme.
