Task 2- Research into existing products: Music-CD

These images show an album cover for the band Kodaline “In a Perfect World”.

 The front cover of the alum is very striking and different top other CD covers. The front shows a wide shot of a lake with mountains in the background and a platform with three people on in the foreground. The three people on the platform isn’t very easy to see however they are the focus pull as even though they can’t barley be seen that platform is the main focus as opposed to the wide background. The location indicates what the songs on the album may have in common which could be to do with the world outside. The name “In a Perfect World” indicates also that the album has the focus of the world. The front cover has the band’s name and album name running across in bold capital white writing, this has a dramatic effect as its behind is clouds and the sky meaning it’s trying to blend into the natural sky but also stand out. It stands out by the bold font and also the band’s name is underlined. This is a common feature on music videos such as Beyoncé “4” album had her name under lined on the back cover. This convention is used to make the artist stand out so people know straight away whose album it is.
 The side of the cover had the band’s name “Kodaline” in bold white font to make it stand out so it’s easy to associate the album with this band. Plus if the Cd is placed on its side when it’s up for sale in a shop elope won’t see the cover first but the side is the focus so having the artists name and album will make it easy to identify. In addition, the white writing is very bold and eye-catching on the dark background so stands out.
 The back cover of the CD is darker as it shows a shot of the outside but at night time as opposed to the day time cover. The back cover has white font on it helping to make the songs stand out as well as other key information like price and the record company associated with this album and the band Kodaline. The songs on the album are the main focus of this back cover as they are located in the centre and in white font making it stand out on the dark background. 
 


 The CD itself is very light just like the front cover of the album. It has a very similar cover to the front of the album with images of the bright open landscape of the lake and the mountains.
